Programs

We offer both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science, a conventional minor program and a summer minor program. All major students develop their own research project in the capstone course. Major students who meet the GPA requirements may also pursue a Distinction in Sociology by completing a more extensive independent research project.

Sociology majors

Sociology looks at the many ways in which society shapes the behaviors and outcomes of individuals and groups. In our major programs, you’ll engage in research using a wide range of data analysis techniques to study disparities and understand differences reflected in inequities, which impact people’s health, social mobility, family formation and life chances.

The B.A. degree track emphasizes the social sciences and humanities to help students learn to communicate effectively and challenge commonly held beliefs using data and empirical evidence. 

B.S. degree-track students will acquire additional mathematical skills, with an emphasis on analytical reasoning, that will further enhance their preparation for graduate school or research careers.

Sociology minors

The sociology minor is available to complement any major course of study by bolstering skills in research, analytical thinking, substantive knowledge of contemporary social challenges, and communication. The summer minor program is an accelerated curriculum, completed online over 9-weeks.
