Big Data and Data Science


The Department of Statistics at the University of South Carolina, Columbia invites applications and/or nominations for an Assistant or Associate Professor position in Statistics. The research focus for this position is in the theory, methodology, and computational aspects related to data science and the analysis of big data, including such research areas as multiple testing, machine learning, uncertainty quantification, data integration, complex data structures, anomaly detection, and data visualization; other related research areas will be considered. The appointment will commence August 2019.

 Applicants must have a PhD in the statistical sciences and must show potential to become an outstanding researcher and demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching. The Department currently consists of twelve tenured/tenure-track faculty and seven full-time instructors. Current research areas of the faculty and graduate students include survival analysis and reliability, Bayesian statistics and Bayesian nonparametrics, latent variable methods, semiparametric methods, highly structured data, simultaneous inference, stochastic processes and statistical education. The Department has approximately 40 full-time graduate students each year and offers PhD, MS, Master of Applied Statistics (MAS), Certificate of Graduate Study in Applied Statistics and BS degrees.
