Please review this page for frequently asked questions about the Women's and Gender Studies Graduate Certificate.

You can apply at any point while you are an enrolled student. You can be a standalone student or concurrently enrolled in another program. Applications are accepted at any time. Please notify the WGST Graduate Director when you have applied.

Graduate students who are concurrently enrolled in another program do not need letters of recommendation. The Graduate Application Portal will require an attachment in the recommendation letter section. You may submit names of your original application letters; the letters will not be considered. Standalone students do need letters of recommendation.

The certificate requires 18 hours of course work (6 courses). Completing the degree will take no less than 3 semesters. There is no timeline for completing the degree; it is at your own pace.

The WGST Graduate Director will email current WGST certificate students each spring to enquire about GTA interest. If you don’t hear from the Graduate Director by March, please reach out to her to let her know that you are interested in a GTA position.

Applying at the beginning of your certificate classes provides the most benefit. However, you may apply after completing classes towards your WGST certificate.

Complete the online graduation application following the process outlined by the Graduate School. You will also need to send a completed MPOS form to the WGST Graduate Director. Please sign and date the form before submitting it. MPOS forms are available here.

You will not be penalized for partly completing the certificate.
