American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB)
We are a national organization committed to advancement of the biochemical sciences. As a student chapter of ASBMB, we aim to engage undergraduate and graduate students of all majors in discussion and understanding of biochemistry and molecular biology. We accomplish these goals through journal clubs, science trivia contests, and roundtable, interdisciplinary discussions of the intersections of science and philosophy. In addition to these activities, we hold a science fair for local high school students each year to foster a love of science in the community. Members enjoy several benefits, including subscriptions to three academic journals (Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Lipid Research, and Journal of Molecular and Cellular Proteomics), free registration for the ASBMB national meeting each year, and the opportunity to present your research at the conference. ACS POLY Student Chapter at USC
We were officially founded at the beginning of the Spring 2012 semester after being registered with both ACS POLY and the Office of Student Affairs at USC. Professor Brian Benicewicz, a USC Educational Foundation Distinguished Professor and SmartState Endowed Chair in Polymer Nanocomposites, has enthusiastically agreed to serve as the faculty advisor for the chapter. Our goal as a student chapter is to promote the opportunities available for material science students. Typically, we arrange invited speaker seminars and industrial networking events/poster sessions to promote interactions between students and scientists from government, academia, and industry. We currently have over 25 student members and welcome new members from undergraduate and graduate communities through the chemistry and chemical engineering departments at USC. Society of the Advancement of Chemical Sciences (SACS)
We coordinate resources and activities for chemistry and biochemistry graduate students, provide information pertaining to chemistry and biochemistry related fields, and promote educational and social activities.
