College launches #ThanksCharles crowdfunding campaign

Posted April 19, 2017

For some, it was a class he taught that inspired a career. For others, it was advice he gave that made the path to success more clear. For many, it was simply an opportunity that became a reality. As the University of South Carolina’s current longest serving dean, Charles Bierbauer has spent 15 years making a mark on countless students in the College of Information and Communications. Now, the Alumni Society Steering Committee wants to recognize all that he has done by saying #ThanksCharles  and you’re invited to help.

From April 20 to May 4, friends and alumni are invited to participate in the #ThanksCharles Scholarship Drive. The initiative supports the CIC Alumni Society Scholarship Fund, which provides tuition assistance for students attending one of our two schools: the School of Journalism and Mass Communications and the School of Library and Information Science. This scholarship fund, created by our alumni, is running dry. To honor Charles, we are working to raise funds for 15 student scholarships in just 15 days.

Now is your chance to say #ThanksCharles for his superior leadership. In the past 15 years, the CIC has expanded degree options for students, excelled in the promotion of children’s literacy through Cocky’s Reading Express, and moved our School of Journalism and Mass Communications into its new home with state-of-the-art technology. Our alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends have so much to be proud of — what could be more fitting than honoring our outgoing dean with scholarship support for the bright students within our college?

How will you say #ThanksCharles? Take a selfie with the printable picture here and tag the college on Twitter: @UofSC_CIC.
