Annual class visit results in major announcement

Allen Devlin,  alumnus and anchor at WANF-TV, the CBS affiliate in Atlanta, visited broadcast journalism students Thursday to make a major announcement. Though being an anchor in the No. 7 market in the nation in your late 20s is no easy feat, Devlin continues to show his star power in the field. He announced his move to New York City, the No. 1 market in the country, to serve as anchor at WCBS-TV.

“We’re so grateful to Allen for announcing his big news here at USC,” said Rick Peterson, senior instructor at the SJMC. “We’re so proud of all he’s accomplished, and we know this is just the beginning.”

Devlin is a three-time Emmy-nominated anchor-reporter, two-time South Carolina Broadcasting Association Award winner, and a two-time Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas award winner.

While at USC, he won two college student awards from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the only USC student to win it twice. He also won a Mark of Excellence Award from the South Carolina Society of Professional Journalists.

“The J-school at USC is the foundation of the success I’ve experienced in my broadcasting career thus far,” said Devlin, who earned his degree in broadcast journalism in 2018. “I owe everything I am and everything I will be in large part to the students, faculty and staff at 800 Sumter Street.”

Devlin continues to support USC by returning every semester to speak to broadcast journalism students.
