The College of Information and Communications has named John “Parks” Rogers the Baldwin Business Faculty Fellow. The position leads the college’s efforts in business and financial journalism and provides opportunities for students in industry-immersion programs.
The responsibilities of the position are three-fold: teaching/mentoring in and out of the classroom; community and industry engagement; and program development. Rogers was selected due to his prior professional experience as a publisher, advertising executive and advertising sales manager for companies including The Washington Post, Gannett, The State Newspaper, The Post and Courier, The Fayetteville Observer and The Newspaper Association of America. He has been a faculty member at the CIC for three years.
“Parks is the right person at the right time for this significant position at the college,” said CIC Dean Tom Reichert. “The need is great for strong business journalists and Parks has great expertise in this area.”
As part of the role, Rogers will get involved with Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW) and take several star students to the annual conference. He will work with journalism majors on job placement and internships and help them submit relevant work to national contests. He will also engage with business journalists at major newspapers throughout the southeast.
"I am honored to be named the Baldwin Business Faculty Fellow,” said Rogers. “I look forward to providing excellent business communications opportunities to our students."
The Baldwin Business Faculty Fellow is named for the late Kenneth W. Baldwin Jr.
A 1949 graduate of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, Baldwin funded an endowment in 2009 to equip students with a depth of knowledge to investigate and report on the most significant and complex business and financial topics that affect consumers and taxpayers.
