Green will develop and teach graduate-level sports media courses, continuing education certificates and courses for sports media and entertainment executives. This new initiative will be the school’s first sports media program in Charlotte. There will also be on-campus programming in Columbia, as well as virtual courses.

“With the global sports industry projected to exceed $650 billion in 2028, an industry this size needs executives with specialized skills to manage and grow the sector,” says Tom Reichert, dean of the college.

“Tamera Green’s background and expertise in the sports and entertainment industry will be invaluable to launching this unique sports-centric curriculum for our journalism school that will help prepare students and professionals for the future. Having just launched an undergraduate degree in sports media last year, we’re excited about this growth to our program.”

This new program is being developed in partnership with the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sports Management.

Green brings more than three decades of experience in strategic marketing, communications and sports-related marketing. She played a key role in bringing the Panthers to Charlotte and helped generate $100 million toward the construction of the team’s stadium.

During her time at TSE, she was instrumental in several critically important efforts including securing the public/private partnership with the City of Charlotte for the renovation of Bank of America stadium, two public rezonings, the relocation of Panthers Training Camp to Charlotte, the naming rights extension with Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte Football Club's first-ever home playoff win, the installation of Kristi Coleman as CEO of Tepper Sports & Entertainment and Concert for Carolina.

“Joining the University of South Carolina to help launch a new sports and entertainment program marks an exciting chapter,” says Green. “With AI, smart stadiums, evolving fan expectations and emerging sports reshaping the landscape, this is a pivotal time to inspire and develop the next generation of industry leaders.”
