Endowment Committee to award two technology grants

For the first time, the SIPA Endowment Committee will award two individual technology grants.

The grants, which are $500 each, will go to journalism programs that need help enhancing their technology due to the transition to online learning.

“Since this school year will be a virtual one, the Endowment Committee thought it was best to prioritize our funding and expenditures on what our members need most right now,” Leslie Dennis, SIPA Director, said.

Awardees can utilize the grant to purchase software or equipment and to expand their virtual platform and web hosting capabilities as well as various other online opportunities.

“Since students and advisers are working from home, they do not have access to the same technology and programs as they do in the classroom,” Dennis said. “We want to make it as easy as possible for students to continue to provide quality journalism for their community and readership.”

You can apply for the grant online now, and all applications are due by 5 p.m. on Nov. 16. Find out about last year's recipient, New Hope HS (Alabama) online news program, on our news site.
