Collections

Valued by the University of South Carolina, the South Carolina Center for Community Literacy is home to a collection of more than 10,000 children and young adult books that are available to the public.

Main Collection

The Center's main collection consists of two parts — current materials and the permanent collection. Current materials, received on a regular basis from publishing houses, are kept for two years in the Center. At the end of the two-year period, they are added to the research collection of Thomas Cooper Library at the University of South Carolina or donated to schools, child care centers or other literacy initiatives.

The Center's permanent collection consists of award winning books (Caldecott, Newbery, Coretta Scott King and others), folk tales and fairy tales, poetry, holiday books, graphic novels, readers and books by South Carolina authors.
