Margo N. Jackson, Director of Student Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement

Greetings and welcome to the College of Education.  We are delighted that you have chosen or are considering being a part of our college family here at the University of South Carolina. In the College of Education, we have worked very hard to promote an inclusive and diverse community environment.   We embrace freedom of thoughts, opinions, religious expression, abilities and disabilities, backgrounds and life experiences.

We work hard to provide opportunities for academic and social success.   In the College of Education, there are various ways for you to get involved and make the most of your college experience.  Please consider joining us and getting active in one of our Student organizations and participating in our ongoing events throughout the semester.

I look forward to meeting you soon and my door is always open.

Regards, Margo Jackson

Student Engagement Activities and Programs

  • College of Education Student Ambassador Program: The Student Ambassador program consists of 10 students who are selected for a 1-year term as an ambassador for the College serving in a variety of capacities at College-sponsored events, programs and activities.
  • Let’s Chat Over Lunch: Let’s Chat with the Dean luncheons provide an opportunity for CoE students to meet our Dean and share their experiences in the College’s programs. Up to 10 students are randomly selected and invited to participate in the luncheon as often as each month.
  • Leadership Week: This is an initiative from the Office of the Provost to promote student leadership across the University during which special activities and events are designed for CoE students. Example activities include Study Abroad info sessions, Tailgate Tuesday, Donuts with the Dean, and a forum on how to get involved with student organization in the College.
  • Technical Workshops: Technical workshops provide students with an opportunity to develop or practice a skill set that will be critical to their success as students or as future education professionals. Topics for the workshops come from suggestions offered by the CoE Student Advisory Board.

Student Diversity and Inclusion Education

  • CoE Student Advisory Committee: The Student Advisory Committee is comprised of students from all programs within the CoE. Each month, 15 students join the Dean and the Director of Student Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement to discuss student issues, concerns and needs.
  • 3D (Dialogues on Diversity over Dinner) Network: The 3D Network is a series of forums designed to provide space for students to engage in dialogue around topics of diversity, equity and inclusion. These forums occur monthly that are open to the University and community.
