Virtual Event Registration: Book Talk and Discussion with Derek Black

Join us for a book discussion with Derek Black, the author of the 2020 Schoolhouse Burning: Public Education and the Assault on American Democracy. After opening reflections on the book, the author will respond to moderator and audience questions.

Derek Black is the Ernest F. Hollings Chair in Constitutional Law at the University of South Carolina. Prior to teaching at Howard University and the University of South Carolina, he litigated issues relating to school desegregation, diversity, school finance equity, student discipline, and special education at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. Professor Black’s areas of expertise include education law and policy, constitutional law, civil rights, evidence, and torts.

This event is part of the Foundations’ Colloquium Series.

The Foundations Colloquium, founded in 2007, features two to three scholars per academic year from the College of Education, the University, and outside UofSC to speak on their educational research from a range of disciplinary perspectives.
