For over a decade, the Office of International and Comparative Education has introduced to and shared with the University of South Carolina and surrounding community the ideas and insights of leading figures in the domestic and international fields of education through guest lectures, documentary screenings with talkbacks, and seminars.
Amidst deepening global integration, when there is a premium on innovation, educators and leaders must stay apprised of new developments around the world. Other countries educate 94% of the world’s children in their schools, making the planet a global laboratory for educational experimentation and creativity.
Current Education Study Abroad Opportunities
Greece & Malta Maymester
Join James Kirylo and Katie Zimmerle as they head off to Greece on this two-week course. Starting in Athens, they will explore the most iconic spots in all of Greece while studying the foundations of western philosophy in education. Next, the group will travel off the beaten path to the neighboring islands of Santorini and Malta to enjoy the beauty of these countries through excursions such as hiking, cave kayaking, and snorkeling, not to mention a sunset donkey ride!

Ecuador & Galapagos Island Service Maymester
Join Cassie Davis and Daniella Cook as they serve the Working Boys Center in capital city of Quito, Ecuador. This two-week course will focus on social justice, global poverty, and equity as students help the Working Boys Center achieve its goal of providing education, food, housing, and health care to community members. Additionally, we will spend time enjoying the beauty of Ecuador by exploring the Andes Mountains, the Mindo Cloud Forest and the Galapagos Islands.
