Do you enjoy being around very young children? Does the idea of helping them discover
their sense of self excite you? Would you like to have a positive impact in children's
lives for years to come?
Your course work
As an Early Childhood Education major, you will learn how to teach math, science, social studies, reading and writing in early childhood education settings. Your courses will include play and early learning, classroom management, family dynamics and culturally relevant teaching. You may be placed in a school setting for hands-on education as early as your first or second semester, where you will gain important experience with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and K-3rd graders in a variety of educational settings.
Ultimately, you will learn how to effectively engage children in learning experiences
while also helping them build cognitive skills such as attention and memory, motor
skills like balance, and social skills, including peer interaction and group participation.
Your career
Early childhood educators play a critical role in the lives of young children, beginning even before kindergarten and continuing through the early elementary years. Recent research has shown that the earliest years of a child’s life provide the foundation for future health, happiness, growth, and learning. Because of this, a growing number of parents have begun introducing their young children to structured learning environments, which means that early childhood educators are in demand!
