The award recognizes distinguished performance and accomplishments in research by a tenure-track faculty member. 

Consideration is given upon sustained productive research activity, recognition of achievement by peer professionals through publication in appropriate journals and conference proceedings and receiving awards from other external professional societies.

The award is presented annually to an untenured faculty member at the rank of assistant professor in recognition of their dedication and contributions to the research objectives of the college.

The award recognizes an individual with at least five years of service at the MCEC and their accomplishments to the college and community.
