National Engineering Week Spotlight: Shree Ghosh

It is National Engineering Week and the theme this year is, "Design Your Future," a call to action and a celebration of the limitless possibilities in engineering. It invites everyone to dream boldly, innovate relentlessly and create a future shaped by the collective ingenuity.

Shree Ghosh, a junior aerospace engineering major from McLean, Virginia, is one of our students designing her future for solving engineering challenges and helping create a better future for all.

Why did you decide to study and pursue a career in aerospace engineering?

"Ever since I was young, the tiny specks of light in the sky have fascinated me after my love for astronomy was born while stargazing. The mysteries of the cosmos have always intrigued me, as I was often captivated by the idea of contributing to humanity’s understanding of the universe.

With aerospace, I knew that I wanted to wake up and be part of a team that uses engineering skills to create technology that would decrease the space between us and the unexplored."

Why do you believe that aerospace engineering is the best fit for your skills and interests?

"Aerospace engineering bridges my interest in exploration, both on our planet and in the universe, with my interest in solving complex engineering problems. With aerospace, I aim to design innovative systems that could enable new discoveries and expand our reach into space through flight systems. Through my engineering classes, I get to challenge myself every day as I learn from both my professors and peers, which only deepens my passions more within the aeronautical industry."

What are you most looking forward to once you graduate and begin your engineering career?

"After I graduate, I’m excited to apply everything I’ve learned through my classes and research experience to real-world problems where I can directly contribute to meaningful projects, particularly in the space and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) industry. I’m eager to collaborate with various teams, learn from industry experts, and see how my engineering efforts can make a tangible impact on the world and beyond, continuously spinning the thread of human innovation and exploration."

Why do you believe engineering and computing professionals are essential for society?

"Engineering and computing professionals bring a unique perspective to their projects, as we combine technical expertise with creativity and critical thinking skills to solve modern problems and enhance quality of life. We help design, build, and drive innovation across every industry, creating long-term improvements, as new aspirations and challenges continue to arise and shape our world."
