South Carolina Honors College

Tori Grenier

Ask me about… being an English major, Greek life, Student Government and the best coffee shops in Columbia!

My advice for prospective students: Get involved right away! Finding small communities within a university completely enhances your experience. I have made lifelong friends in various organizations throughout campus, and also become a better leader and student as well. There are so many opportunities at your fingertips, you just have to look for them.

My advice for current students: Don’t forget to take care of yourself! Yes, grades and life goals are so important, but so is your happiness. Make sure you’re doing something for yourself everyday, whether it’s spending some time outside, calling a loved one, or getting yourself a sweet treat. You will be better in the long run if you put yourself first.

My favorite thing about the Honors College: The close knit community. So many of my best friends are in the Honors college, and getting to live in the same dorm as them freshman year, take really cool classes together, and eventually graduate together is such an amazing opportunity.

My reason for choosing the SCHC: When making my college decision, finding a place where I felt valued was so important to me, and that’s what I’ve found at the SCHC. The support offered here is unmatched. The staff, advisors, and faculty truly care about you, and want to see you not just accomplish your goals, but enjoy yourself in the process.

My favorite things: Coffee dates, morning workouts, my google calendar, and my goldendoodle, Mya!

Something that makes me laugh: Definitely my little brother, Matthew. He is only 13 but the funniest person I’ve ever met. He lights up every room he walks into!

Something new I’d like to learn: I’ve always wanted to play the piano! My dad is slowly teaching me “Your Song” by Elton John, but I’m only four measures in so far. I’ll keep you updated.

Songs I’ve completely memorized: The entirety of Taylor Swift’s discography.

My pet peeve: Slow walkers. Fun fact about me is that I can get anywhere on campus in like ten minutes.

My hero: My mom. She is the most generous person I know, and I am so lucky to have her in my life. I try to emulate her genuine kindness in everything I do.

My escape: Reading. I can get lost in a story so easily, it's almost like a superpower. I am always down to talk about book recommendations!
