Distinguished Honors Alumni Award
In 1997, the South Carolina Honors College instituted the Distinguished Honors Alumni
Award, the highest honor given to its graduates. Each year, this award is presented
to recognize an SCHC graduate who excels professionally or who has contributed time
and effort to the betterment of the Honors College or to society.
Eligibility Considerations
- Candidate must be an alumnus or alumna of the South Carolina Honors College who is
more than 10 years removed from graduation.
- It is preferred that the candidate is able to attend the Homecoming Reception, but
extenuating circumstances will be considered.
- Candidate must not be running for or currently holding a public office.
- The award recognizes professional excellence or contributions for the betterment of
the Honors College or society.
Nominations
Nominators must submit a nomination letter. Nominations will be active for three years
or until the nominee is no longer eligible for the award, whichever occurs first.
Nominations may be updated during the three-year period.

2025 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipients

Sheila Cregger
2025 Distinguished Honors Alumna Sheila Cregger is a 1978 graduate with a Bachelor's
of Science in Business Administration. She and her husband Morris own plumbing and
HVAC supplier the Cregger Company. The company boasts over 70 locations in eight states
and supplies customers in 40 states.

Creighton Waters
2025 Distinguished Honors Alumnus Creighton Waters graduated from the Honors College
in 1992 and the Joseph F. Rice School of Law in 1996. He serves as the Chief Attorney
for the State Grand Jury section of the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.
During his career he has earned many accolades including an Ernest F. Hollings Award
for Excellence in State Prosecution in 2011.
