Processes that influence weather and climate patterns on the earth. Three lectures and one two-hour laboratory per week. CL: 2020.
Notes:
*This course provides students with a general understanding of the processes which influence weather and climate patterns on the earth. It first examines the sources of energy driving atmospheric processes and processes associated with atmospheric moisture. The second part of the course starts with the forces creating the winds and extends to storm systems, including mid-latitude cyclones, thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes. The last third of the class is devoted to the study of climate, interannual variability, and long-term change. The laboratory sections will include experiments, workbook exercises, and analysis of real-time computer weather graphics.
