Notes:

**Field trips are required where students will be asked to respect social distancing measures. Students are required to complete service hours for this course and will need to have access to transportation to reach service opportunities off campus. Students should also be prepared to follow any social distancing protocols while traveling to service sites and while completing their service requirements. This course will acquaint students with natural resource and cultural resource issues involving Congaree National Park and the surrounding area. Students will receive a background in the park’s natural resources and on-going research and resource management at the Park. Students will also study the cultural history of the park, including historic and current uses of the park, the rich cultural legacy deriving from those historic uses, and how the community’s relationship to the park continues to evolve. Public advocacy was fundamental to the park’s creation, and that tradition of public engagement continues today. Students will study the park’s role and private citizens’ continuing role in public policy issues affecting the park. Students registering for this class should note that the field trips are required and typically take place during scheduled class time, but may start early or run over. **The course will begin as an online synchronous course and then over the semester move to some in-class modules mixed with online delivery.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
