Chef du Jour

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a few hours to spend with a culinary expert? Wait no more! Register today for one of our Chef du Jour classes to sample new cuisines or to learn new and fun ways to prepare the foods that you've always enjoyed!

These are not your typical cooking "demonstrations."

In many similar classes, you sit back and watch a chef do all of the cooking as he or she demonstrates a variety of cooking techniques. Our classes are not for onlookers, but rather for those of you who are ready to get your hands (and clothes) a little dirty. You will actually be doing the cooking, learning three to five new recipes in the process. So come to class dressed comfortably and be ready for some fun!

Offered approximately twice a month, our Chef du Jour classes take place at the McCutchen House, located on the historic Horseshoe, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays (unless otherwise specified). Seats are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes fill quickly so make your reservations early.

Fall 2017

November 4, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Pie Making 101

Our class will demystify the general pitfalls of making pies. We'll show you how to make an easy pie crust for fruit pies along with fancy top crusts and streusel toppings. Instead of using canned pie filling, we'll show you how to incorporate fresh apples and pears for fillings. Also, we'll demonstrate how to make cream filled pies (coconut cream for example) which are also a hit. At the end, you'll take home all of the pies you made to share with your friends and family. $65.00 per person. Register now.

November 11, 9 a.m.-1 a.m.

Holiday Entertaining

There is no need to feel stressed after taking our class on how to create a four-course meal for the holiday season. In our class, we'll show you how to make a roasted injected turkey breast, homemade stuffing, roasted beets and other vegetables. In addition, you'll create a citrus salad and seasonal soup that are quick, easy, and will please all of your guests. $75.00 per person. Register now.

December 2, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. (extended 6 hr. class)

Braising Comfort Foods

This class will show you the basics of braising meats and great side dishes that can be served alongside them. We'll cover how to braise lamb shanks, chicken thighs, beef short ribs and osso buco. While these are slowly cooking, we'll prepare various side dishes (such as risotto) which pair nicely. $90.00 per person. Register now.
