While most students were cramming for midterms, iIT’s Joey Beasley attended a prestigious event in the information technology community.
Beasley, a junior in the Department of integrated Information Technology (iIT), was selected by the local chapter of ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association) to attend an IT security conference in Washington, D.C. The event is called the CSX Conference, CSX meaning CyberSecurity Nexus. This scholarship award included full conference fee, air travel, hotel and transportation.
The event, held October 19-21, was created for IT professionals to share information related to cybersecurity threats in the field. ISACA created the event this year as a way for industry leaders to collaborate on ways to prevent and combat those threats.
ISACA awarded Beasley a scholarship to attend the conference, all expenses paid, giving him an opportunity to network and learn alongside some of IT’s biggest influencers.
The conference included a variety of different sessions. At one session, Beasley and other attendees responded to a stimulated cyber attack, learning the best ways to respond with different security measures.
Joey is hopeful that attending such a prestigious event will aid him on his journey to a successful career. He’s on track to graduate in December 2016.
