Honorable C. Tolbert Goolsby, Jr.

 

Tolbert Goolsby was born in Montgomery, Alabama in 1935. He became a Judge in the South Carolina Court of Appeals. He was then elected to the Court of Appeals at its inception in September 1983 and served continuously as an Associate Judge until his retirement in 2007. He then served as a specially appointed judge after his retirement. He also served as an Acting Associate Justice with the South Carolina Supreme Court on several occasions, and as Assistant Attorney General of South Carolina from 1962 to 1972. He was Deputy Attorney General of South Carolina from 1973 to 1983 and Chief Deputy Attorney General of South Carolina in 1983.

He received his Bachelor of Arts from the The Citadel in 1959 after which he enrolled in the University of South Carolina School of Law where he earned his LL.B. in 1962. Later in life, he graduated from the University of Virginia with his LL.M. in 1992.
