Grice, Kaufmann win Outstanding Medical Student Poster at Prisma Research Showcase

School of Medicine Columbia second-year medical students Emma Grice and Cecily Kaufmann won outstanding medical student poster at the Prisma Research Showcase in Greenville, S.C., for their project titled New Diagnosis HIV linkage to care evaluation in Southeastern United States: A retrospective cohort study. Grice is the first author, while Kaufmann is second author on the project.

The team has been invited to present their work as an oral presentation at the Prisma Health Quarterly Research Town Hall on Nov. 20. Grice and Kaufmann participated in the SOMC’s SOAR program, specifically working on the FOCUS grant projects, under the mentorship of Dr. Sarah Battle, a School of Medicine Columbia alum, clinical assistant professor and infectious disease physician at Prisma Health Midlands.

The SOAR program is a full-time eight-week summer program that enables School of Medicine Columbia medical students to work closely with faculty mentors, exploring basic science, translational, or clinical research, or projects focused on health care quality or patient safety, or educational research.
