About the Program
If you’ve ever felt unsure in the kitchen, or just want to make cooking simpler, this
session is full of game changing ideas you can start using immediately. We’ll walk
through smart ways to organize your kitchen, so everything has a place, adaptive tools
that make cooking safer and easier, and non-visual techniques for handling heat, measuring
ingredients, and following recipes. You’ll discover simple methods for preparing satisfying
meals, plus practical tips that reduce stress and make cooking enjoyable.
Participants will learn:
- Organize their kitchen using practical, non-visual systems so tools, ingredients,
and equipment are easy to locate and use consistently.

- Apply simple meal preparation strategies that reduce stress, increase efficiency,
and support enjoyable independent cooking at home.
About the Presenter

Samantha McGovern
Samantha McGovern holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Penn State University
with a certification in Health and Physical Education, and a Master’s degree in Orientation
and Mobility from Salus University (now Drexel University). She is a Certified Orientation
and Mobility Specialist (COMS), Certified Low Vision Therapist (CLVT), and Certified
Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT). Samantha began her career working in the
aquatics and physical education department at a school for the blind, where she later
transitioned into her role as a COMS. She currently works for the Association for
the Blind and Visually Impaired, providing services to both children and adults across
multiple vision rehabilitation disciplines.
