Session 1 (10-11:30 a.m.) - Signing with Children Aged Birth-3 and Beyond
This is a fun, interactive introduction to sign language workshop. It covers 30+ single
ASL signs, the manual alphabet, and numbers 1-10. Participants will learn and practice
the signs and learn how to introduce signs to young children. It also covers how sign
language encourages speech and language development and can enhance overall communication.
Participants will learn:
- Identify and demonstrate 30+ early signs
- Demonstrate the letters of the manual alphabet and numbers 1-10
- Explain the benefits of signing with young children
Target Audience:
- Parents of young children with speech and language delays and/or disorders
- Professionals who work with young children with speech and language delays and/or
disorders
Session 2 (1:30-3 p.m.)
This is a fun, interactive training for parents and professionals who want to learn
emergency American Sign Language (ASL) signs to use in the workplace. It covers 50+
single ASL emergency signs, for the workplace. It also covers best practices for communicating
with employees who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Participants will learn:
- Participants will demonstrate and show fifty emergency American Sign Language signs
to use in the workplace.
- Participants will identify 10 tips for communicating with an employee who is Deaf
or Hard of Hearing.
- Participants will identify 5+ tips for communicating in a group or meeting with an
employee who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
Target Audience:
- Parents of transition-age students (13+) who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or have speech
and language delays and use sign language to communicate
- Professionals who work with employees who are using sign-language to communicate
