About the Program

Participants will learn about the speech-generating devices (SGDs), hardware/software, environmental control units (ECUs), and alternate access methods available for AAC users through Forbes AAC; when to recommend these systems to meet different communication needs for AAC users across the lifespan; and language systems, both symbol-based and text-based, for AAC users of all ages and abilities.

Participants will learn:

  1. Identify three symbol-based language systems and three text-based language systems available for AAC users.
  2. Explain the features of three alternate access methods and how these three access methods meet an AAC user’s specific needs (e.g., visual, motor, cognitive abilities).
  3. Define environmental control units (ECUs) and describe three ways that ECUs can benefit AAC users.
