About the Program
Participants will learn about the speech-generating devices (SGDs), hardware/software,
environmental control units (ECUs), and alternate access methods available for AAC
users through Forbes AAC; when to recommend these systems to meet different communication
needs for AAC users across the lifespan; and language systems, both symbol-based and
text-based, for AAC users of all ages and abilities.
Participants will learn:
- Identify three symbol-based language systems and three text-based language systems
available for AAC users.
- Explain the features of three alternate access methods and how these three access
methods meet an AAC user’s specific needs (e.g., visual, motor, cognitive abilities).
- Define environmental control units (ECUs) and describe three ways that ECUs can benefit
AAC users.
