Basic Science Departments

Basic science refers to the fundamental functions of biology. These departments give our students the chance to develop an understanding of cellular and molecular behavior before launching into student-faculty research projects. 

Cell Biology and Anatomy

With diverse courses and eight areas of interest, this department provides comprehensive education in anatomical and cell biology sciences. 

Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology

This department works closely with the Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine and the Center for Dietary Supplements and Inflammation to provide a rigorous course of study that turns students into independent scientists.

Pharmacology, Physiology and Neuroscience

This department has an active research focus and an in-depth neuroscience curriculum. Our students and faculty regularly win awards for their work. 

 

Centers and Institutes

Our faculty have spearheaded several NIH-backed centers and institutes. These centers and institutes provide a source of funding for our faculty and students to discover new ways to make impacts on the health of our state, nation and world.
