After graduating with a B.S. in psychology from Duke University, Dr. Linton spent 9 months in Panama as part of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, in partnership with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.  Dr. Linton earned her medical doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, followed by pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  At residency graduation, Dr. Linton earned the Nancy Elizabeth Barnhart Award, awarded to one senior pediatric resident who, in the opinion of peers and faculty, demonstrates a commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of children in the community beyond hospital duties. After gaining clinical experience in rural and urban settings in Greenville, SC and Winston-Salem, NC, Dr. Linton joined the faculty at the Wake Forest School of Medicine, where she served as the Advocacy Director for the Wake Forest Pediatric Residency Program and the Associate Director of the Integrating Special Populations Program at the Maya Angelou Center for Health Equity.  Dr. Linton received the 2018 Jimmy L. Simon Teaching Award for the Wake Forest Pediatric Residency Program before returning to Prisma Health-Upstate as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville and a Clinical Associate Professor at the Clemson University School of Health Research.

As a general academic pediatrician, Dr. Linton has dedicated her career to clinical care, education, advocacy, community engagement, and scholarship to promote health equity for all children and families, with a particular focus on children in immigrant families.  Currently, Dr. Linton provides clinical care and supervises medical trainees at the Center for Pediatric Medicine and teaches the Integrated Practice of Medicine (IPM) at the medical school.  Dr. Linton also serves as the Medical Director of PASOs, which helps the Latino community and service providers work together for strong, healthy families.

Nationally, Dr. Linton serves on the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Council on Community Pediatrics Executive Committee and co-chairs the AAP Immigrant Health Special Interest Group.  She has co-authored several AAP Policy Statements, including Promoting Food Security for All Children (2015) and Detention of Immigrant Children (2017).  In 2017, Dr. Linton was awarded the David T. Tayloe Sr. Award for Outstanding Community Service by the North Carolina Chapter of the AAP.  Locally, Dr. Linton is the Upstate Representative for the SC Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).  Dr. Linton is a current fellow in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Culture of Health Leaders Program, a longitudinal leadership development opportunity focused on collaboration and transformative leadership to address health equity in communities. Dr. Linton is committed to incorporating a framework of equity, diversity, and inclusion in her role as the Assistant Dean for Admissions at the UofSC School of Medicine Greenville.
