Admissions

How to Apply

The UofSC School of Medicine Greenville participates in the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS).  Our application process is executed through WebAdMIT, a AAMC product. The AMCAS application opens in early May; applicants may begin submitting materials at the end of May. Applicants may apply as an Early Decision Program applicant or a Regular Decision applicant.

Submitted AMCAS applications will be reviewed when received. The office of Admissions will notify the applicant when their verified AMCAS file has been received and a supplemental application will be sent to all applicants through the Applicant Gateway of WebAdMIT. Upon review of the applicant’s completed application, selected applicants will continue forward in the admissions process with an invitation for a virtual interview through Zoom.

Application Process

Applicants must complete and submit a primary application through AMCAS to be considered for admission to the school as an “Early Decision”, “Early Assurance”, or “Regular M.D.” under the USC School of Medicine Greenville.  Please keep in mind that the processing time for an AMCAS application can take up to 8 weeks for regular decision applicants, so we strongly advise students to apply as early as possible.

We require at least three letters of recommendation, with a maximum of five letters. If your undergraduate institution prepares a Premedical Advisory Committee letter, we will accept that to fulfill the minimum letter requirements. We do not have requirements for the types of letters you must submit. Letters should be written by individuals who know you well: a faculty professor at your undergraduate institution; a physician with whom you have worked closely; a research mentor; or an employer. It is important to make sure that the individuals or premedical advisory committee members submitting letters on your behalf know you well and are able to comment on your work ethic, interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, passion for medicine and compassion for your future patients. For the 2021-2022 admissions cycle, we will remain cognizant of the fact that clinical and observation experiences may be more difficult to obtain during this application cycle.

We will notify you by e-mail within two weeks of receiving your verified AMCAS application regarding our supplemental application or your application status.  The USC School of Medicine Greenville houses their supplemental application within WebAdMIT; applicants will be granted access to their supplemental application through the Applicant Gateway.  A $95 processing fee is required during submission of your supplemental application. Applicants who qualify for the Fee Assistance Program through AMCAS will be granted an AMCAS fee waiver covering the $95.00 processing fee.

Selected applicants will be invited by e-mail to complete a virtual interview day through Zoom with the UofSC School of Medicine Greenville.  The day begins with a video and welcome, information session with the admissions team and members of the Dean’s cabinet. Following a lunch break, each applicant will have one 50-minute interview with two members of the Admissions Committee as well as rotate through a "Multiple Mini-Interview" session.  Applicants will then meet with our Financial Aid Manager and Lead Student Success Coordinator and meet with current students before ending the day with a virtual tour of the medical school. The interview day begins at 10:00 AM EST and generally ends at approximately 4:30 PM EST.  Applicants are encouraged to review the AAMC Virtual Interview Tips for Medical School Applicants.

Applicants are asked to sign a form acknowledging they have read, understand and are able to meet the Technical Standards of Admission.

.

Offers of admission are extended on a rolling basis after October 15*.  An applicant who is offered a position in the next entering class is required to accept or decline the offer within a two-week period. A $250 deposit must accompany acceptance of an offer of admission. Prior to or on April 30 the deposit is fully refundable upon receipt of written notification that an applicant wishes to withdraw from the entering class. The acceptance deposit is nonrefundable after April 30. An offer of admission is contingent upon satisfactory completion of all requirements and conditions of admission, including a satisfactory background check. Admitted applicants are required to submit official transcripts from every college and university attended to the Registrar prior to July 1. These transcripts are included in their USC School of Medicine Greenville academic records.

**Early Decision offers are made on or before October 1.

The UofSC School of Medicine Greenville follows the AAMC Application and Acceptance Protocols established by the AAMC.

Mid-October to mid-March: Decisions announced. For those accepted, a Letter of Intent confirming terms of acceptance must be completed within two weeks of the offer.

Failure to do so will result in the rescinding of the admission offer.

February 19: “Plan to Enroll” option for accepted students becomes available. The UofSC School of Medicine Greenville highly recommends that accepted students utilize this tool, as this assists us (and other medical schools) in ensuring we do not either over– or undersubscribe the amount of offers we extend.

April 15: The AAMC Application and Acceptance Protocols recommends accepted students narrow offers to no more than three medical schools (if applicable). The UofSC School of Medicine highly recommends accepted students follow this protocol.

April 30: “Commit to Enroll” option for accepted students becomes available. From April 30 to 21 days prior to Orientation, the UofSC School of Medicine Greenville highly recommends accepted students utilize this tool when they are ready to commit to a school and are intending to withdraw all other acceptances.

21 days prior to Orientation: “Commit to Enroll” is required to be selected by accepted students planning to matriculate to the UofSC School of Medicine Greenville. Failure to do so will result in the rescinding of the admission offer.
