SOMG announces the appointment of Aaron Toro as Executive Director of Finance and Operations

USC School of Medicine Greenville (SOMG) is proud to announce the selection of Aaron Toro as Executive Director of Finance and Operations.  

Toro joins SOMG with vast experience as a health services leader in operations and practice management, clinical rehab manager, and as a faculty instructor in health care administration.

“We are excited to welcome Aaron Toro to our SOMG team as Executive Director of Finance and Operations,” said SOMG Dean Phyllis MacGilvray. “As the key strategic business advisor and administrative lead to senior leadership at SOMG, Aaron’s wealth of professional experience, including his experience most recently as an operations manager at Prisma Health, will prove beneficial in this key position.  

“This role oversees key processes, and I know Aaron will ensure everything on campus runs smoothly day-to-day every day, something he has excelled at over his career.”  

The Executive Director of Finance and Operations position at SOMG directs all budget, finance, contracting, IT, marketing, facilities, and education support functions of assuring sound fiscal principles, prudent financial management, and efficient high-quality support and ensures adherence to all compliance policies, procedures, and regulations.  

Toro moved to the upstate of South Carolina from metro Detroit in 2014, after spending more than nine years working as an athletic trainer, administrative fellow, and clinical rehab manager for the Detroit Medical Center. He earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Eastern Michigan University and master’s degree in Health Services Administration from University of Detroit Mercy. After earning his master’s degree, Toro focused his career on medical group leadership. He was also lead instructor in the health care administration program at Brown Mackie College, teaching adult learners, many who entered the health administration field.  

He comes to USCSOMG after eight years with Prisma Health, first as a practice manager then operations manager. Throughout his managerial career, Toro has experience in several specialties, including orthopedics, family medicine, and anesthesiology. He was a practice operations manager for six years and a physician practice manager for more than a year. At one point in this tenure with Prisma Health, he managed three practices concurrently, ensuring each ran effectively and smoothly on a day-to-day basis.  

On a personal level, Toro has been married for 22 years. He and Hilary, a kindergarten teacher for Greenville County Schools, have three children ranging in age from age 29 to 17.  He enjoys playing softball and collecting sports memorabilia.
