Developing Talent Leaders

Talent is a key driver of performance in the modern economy. The Department of Management's mission is to identify how organizations can more effectively attract, develop and retain talent to drive business performance, innovation, inclusion and entrepreneurial activity.

We accomplish this mission by:

  • Conducting impactful scholarly research and training the next generation of management Ph.D. scholars
  • Transforming undergraduate and graduate students into effective business leaders
  • Collaborating with the business community to enhance management, innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities

The Department of Management is home to research and educational centers. These centers contribute to educational excellence in traditional management areas that include entrepreneurship, strategic management, human resources, business communication, business ethics and organizational behavior.

The management department offers an undergraduate concentration in human resources as well as a broad range of courses in areas ranging from strategic management to business communications. Students are exposed to a unique blend of classroom and applied experiential learning opportunities to prepare them for work in the modern economy. We also offer a wide range of both required and elective courses in areas such as entrepreneurship, leadership, consulting and organizational development, human resources, talent analytics and strategic management.

The department's Master of Human Resources program is among the most elite in the world and has demonstrated over 20 years of excellence in training and placing students in leading organizations. The program's blend of cutting-edge education, experiential learning opportunities with top organizations and exposure to leading chief human resources officers distinguishes our students by ensuring they are able to lead businesses and build inclusion through the HR function.

Doctoral students interested in specializing in organizational behavior and human resources will find a program unlike any other. Our faculty are award-winning scholars who are widely published in leading journals and have led the academic profession through their editorial and professional service. Doctoral students have incredible research opportunities that lead to multiple publications and placements in top academic institutions.

We offer consulting services to solve all types of operational and strategic talent challenges. To support our educational mission and research mission, the management department relies heavily on the Riegel & Emory Human Resources Research Center and the Center for Executive Succession. These centers work to support research activities, promote links between the University of South Carolina and the business community and build competencies and skills among both undergraduate and graduate students.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
