Darla Moore School of Business

Admission Requirements

The Darla Moore School of Business seeks to enroll diverse and qualified students.

An earned undergraduate degree from an accredited institution is required to be considered for admission to the MHR program. The minimum undergraduate GPA is 3.0. Graduate course work or (whether degree has been earned) will also be taken into consideration. Transcripts from all institutions attended must be submitted to the Darla Moore School of Business.

Applicants must provide a valid (five years old or less) GMAT score or the GRE to be considered for admission to the MHR program. The GMAT and GRE are composed of verbal, qualitative and analytical sections. The institutional/program GMAT code for the school is JV2-TP-36. The GRE code for UofSC is 5818.

* The MHR program’s admission committee reviews applications holistically (e.g., resume, transcripts, test scores, personal statement, recommendation letters) when determining admission. However, some applicants may feel that GRE or GMAT scores do not entirely reflect their aptitude, academic preparedness, or potential for success in the program. Hence, although we strongly recommend including a competitive GRE or GMAT score in applications, the committee recognizes this is not an option for all applicants and has made GRE or GMAT scores optional for the fall 2023 application and admission cycle. Please get in touch with the program at mhr@moore.sc.edu with questions.

Non-U.S. candidates who do not hold a degree from a United States institution must submit a valid (two years old or less) test score demonstrating their command of the English language. The minimum score for the TOEFL is 105 (internet-based), and the institutional code for the Darla Moore School of Business is 5818. The minimum score is 7.5 for the IELTS. Please make sure you select the University of South Carolina as a score recipient when taking the test.

You can attach unofficial transcripts to your online application for the review process.  Transcripts are required from every institution attended for course credit, even if a degree was not awarded.  Official transcripts are required for enrollment and must be sent before the end of your first term to continue in the program.  Documentation includes grade sheets, a statement of degree(s) awarded and the date each degree was conferred.  International universities often have separate grade sheets and certificates showing proof of degree.

Work experience is not required for the MHR program, but it is preferred. The program values all undergraduate internships or post-undergraduate work experiences.

Two letters of recommendation are required for the admission review. It is acceptable to have either professional or academic letters of recommendation. However, it is encouraged that candidates submit professional letters of reference if possible.

The application for admission requires a statement of purpose (500-word essay) which should outline why you want to earn the MHR degree. There is additional space to add a personal essay. This essay should be used to explain the circumstances of any part of your application where you feel the admissions committee might have concerns.

Application Fee Waiver

The Moore School recognizes the valuable contribution of applicants associated with a select group of organizations. With this in mind, we waive the application fee for certain sponsors and/or agencies. View the Application Fee Waiver [PDF] for more information.
