Students receive 29 weekly lessons (60 minutes), 6 repertoire classes per year (60 minutes), and additional concert events.* Students participate in formal performances including one recital per semester and SCMTA district and state auditions. Advanced Young Artists attend two professional piano concerts per year as a cohort with instructors. All students are encouraged to take Royal Conservatory Exams, performance and academic (each at an additional cost), in consultation with the private instructor. Chamber music opportunities, such as duets, duos and trios with other pianist or other instrumentalists, are available at an additional cost (space permitting).
*The Center for Piano Studies will resume customary operations in Fall 2021, with classes and lessons occurring in-person at the School of Music. The CPS will follow University procedures and decisions regarding cancellations and closures, and will continue required safety measures (COVID-19 related). Cost with 60-minute lessons: 2 payments of $714 or 6 payments of $238
Duo chamber music, three 60-minute coachings: $75
Trio chamber music, three 60-minute coachings: $50

Students need to be at or above Level 8 repertoire, and/or in school grade 7 and above. A child may be ready for this program anywhere from the seventh to the tenth year of study. Students with prior study may transfer into the program, pending an interview to ensure correct placement. Enrollment is for the duration of the academic year, September through early May.
Student piano requirement: Acoustic piano
Practice requirement: 60 minutes a day, 5–6 days a week
A minimum of 6 lessons must be taken throughout the summer.
Enrollment and Weekly Schedules
Repertoire classes occur monthly on Fridays at 6:30 p.m., and all students are assigned a class section, based on age and other educational factors. Different sections may meet on different Friday dates. Chamber music coachings (optional) may also occur on Fridays at 6:30 p.m. (on non-repertoire class weeks), or at an alternate time.
