invoke is an ensemble that looks to the present, not the past, for inspiration. Believing that the string quartet remains one of the most maneuverable ensembles, invoke aims to direct the efforts of artists across disciplines to reinvent the string quartet as a relevant 21st-century medium.
Since its inception in 2013, invoke has performed as part of the newly minted Radical Sound collective on the inaugural concert of the ongoing Common Tone program and is recording several world premieres, including works by Geoff Sheil and Joel Pierson. Individually, violinists Zach Matteson and Nick Montopoli, violist Karl Mitze, and cellist Geoff Manyin have performed dozens of premieres by the nation's most talented young composers.
The members of invoke have also lent their skills to some of the most innovative ensembles including Great Noise, the PostClassical Ensemble, and TEMPO, and have performed alongside a number of world-class musicians, including eighth blackbird and members of Orpheus. Their teachers and coaches include members of the Kronos, Guarneri, Emerson and Audobon Quartets, as well as members of the most prominent American symphony orchestras.
