Summer MM in Choral Conducting

For choral directors who want to continue their study in conducting, USC offers a master’s degree that can be accomplished in three summers of coursework.  The program is appropriate for teachers, church musicians, and directors of community choirs who want to develop their expertise and knowledge in a fully accredited master’s degree program.

Graduate students attend classes on campus in late June and July; some courses are available online in May or asynchronously during the summer.  For more information, contact Dr. Alicia W. Walker.

Application

Application information can be found here.

Pre-screening

Pre-screening materials are due by December 1.

Pre-screening video: at least 20 minutes of footage which includes conducting in both rehearsal and performance. The camera should be placed facing the conductor.  Selected applicants will be invited to an on-campus audition and interview in early February.

Notification of invitation will be sent by January 10.

The following is a sample course plan for the Summer MM.  Specific course offerings will vary, depending on the year of enrollment. The Music Diagnostic Exam also has bearing on the courses required.
