Carolina Core and College General Education total requirements must equal 60 or more credit hours, depending on language placement test and use at most of two overlay courses in Carolina Core. Minimum hours equal 31.

Nursing Core Courses

NURS 250

Nursing as a science; selected concepts of self-care and communication within the context of nursing science. Note: Transition course for registered nurse students only. Credit received for NURS 110 and NURS 210 upon completion.

Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3 Units

NURS 309

Cognitive skills, psychomotor skills and technologies necessary to perform health assessment. Prerequisite and/or Corequisite: NURS 250

Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3 Units

NURS 318

Concepts of disease processes in the human body and related pharmacologic interventions. Focus on nursing assessments and interventions.

Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3 Units

NURS 313

Nursing care focusing on health promotion, restoration, and support of older adults. Restricted to upper division nursing students. Prerequisites: NURS 311 and 312 for generic BSN students; NURS 250 RN-BSN students.

Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3 Units

NURS 400

Introduction to the language and process of research and the use of best practices to guide nursing practice. Prerequisites: STAT 110 and NURS 314 for generic BSN students; NURS 250 for RN-BSN students.

Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3 Units

NURS 420

Examination of emerging health-related issues and their relevance to professional nursing practice. Prerequisites: NURS 250.

Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 4 Units

NURS 428

Concepts and principles of leadership, management, policy, and politics in delivering patient care within health care systems and the implications related to nursing practice. Relationships between policies and politics in the health field and the impact on patient care and access to healthcare. Prerequisites: NURS 412 for pre-licensure BSN students; NURS 250 for RN-BSN students.

Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3 Units

NURS 431

Concepts and principles of aggregate and community health. Prerequisites: NURS 250 RN-BSN students.

Duration: 7 weeks | Credit Hours: 3 Units

NURS 434

This practicum course focuses on community-based application and synthesis of professional nursing roles and responsibilities with selected populations determined to be at risk for a variety of health related problems.

Requires a 56 hour hands on, face to face practicum in the student’s community or in Columbia, SC. There are no online completion options for this portion of the course.
