Residency and Fellowship Programs

Practice experiences are required components of the pharmacy curriculum at the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy. These rotations account for about one-third of the required courses in pharmacy school.

The University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy offers or is affiliated with residency programs in hospital settings and in community settings. Hospital residencies focus on developing practice skills in differentiated areas and are delegated clinical, teaching and service responsibilities. Community residencies focus on developing and implementing innovative patient care programs within a community setting.

As part of your studies, you’ll learn from preceptors — practicing pharmacists and other practicing professionals — in a variety of real-life settings. These rotations are important opportunities to test the concepts you’ve learned, provide patient care, make decisions, interact with patients, network with fellow professionals and collaborate with onsite practitioners. You can even opt to study abroad in your fourth year in countries such as Australia, China, Nicaragua or Uganda.

Academic Preparation Program (APP)

USC's College of Pharmacy offers an optional certificate to residents throughout the state of South Carolina who are interested in enhancing skills needed in an academic environment. The certificate, which prepares pharmacy residents for full-time or adjunct faculty positions, has requirements that are already met by many residency programs.
