Research Participants Needed
We are looking for volunteers from the community to participate in our ongoing studies,
funded by the American Heart Association and the U of SC Center for Dietary Supplements
and Inflammation. You might qualify for both studies!
Renal correlates of vascular function in women after pregnancy
We are looking for women who had a singleton birth 6 months – 3 years ago to participate
in a single visit study. We will measure blood pressure, the stiffness of the arteries,
and perform a test of forearm blood vessel reactivity. All testing includes a blood
draw and occurs before noon. We will ask you to fill out surveys about your physical
activity, sedentary behavior, diet, and medical history. The visit lasts about 75
minutes. Participants receive free parking and $50.
Dietary supplements for blood vessel health after adverse pregnancy outcomes
We are looking for women who had a singleton birth 6 months – 3 years ago that was
complicated by preeclampsia, hypertension, preterm birth, or low birthweight delivery
to participate in a clinical trial study. We will measure blood pressure, the stiffness
of the arteries, and perform a test of forearm blood vessel reactivity. All testing
includes a blood draw and occurs before noon. We will ask you to fill out surveys
about your physical activity, sedentary behavior, diet, opinions about dietary supplements,
and medical history. The visit lasts about 75 minutes. Participants receive free parking
and $50.
Then you will be randomized to take a commercially available over the counter supplement
(we provide the supplement) for 1 month or asked to be in the control group and maintain
your usual habits for 1 month. All participants will come back 1 month after the first
visit to repeat measurements. The visit lasts about 75 minutes. Participants receive
free parking and $50.
