New faculty, staff parking information
Posted on: May 9, 2016; Updated on: May 9, 2016
The university is preparing to make major improvements to the condition of existing surface parking lots, including repaving deteriorated asphalt, repainting parking lanes, and installing additional lighting and emergency call boxes.
At the same time, the university’s parking garages are also slated for improvements.
Those include structural upgrades to stairwells and other areas, better lighting and
repainting. The plan also calls for guaranteed parking for permit holders and designating
additional spaces exclusively for faculty and staff near the Carolina Coliseum and
the Blatt P.E. Center.
Since Vehicle Management and Parking Services receives its operating expenses from
the sale of permits, fees for faculty, staff and student parking must be adjusted
beginning in August to finance the $12.5 million improvement plan. More information
will be provided soon about how to purchase new permits.
The upcoming fee changes include the following:
Permit Type | Old Fee | Adjusted Monthly Fee |
B, BW, C, CL, D, E, M, MM, N, U, X, Y | 0 | $20 |
H** | 0 | $20 |
Z | 0 | $12 |
RS | $100 | $110 |
SHC | $60 | $65 |
HC | 0 | $12 |
MC** | 0 | - |
All Garage/Reserved Lot Parking | $60 | $65 |
** Additional information about changes to H and MC permits will be sent to permit
holders at a later date.
In addition to parking improvements, the university will unveil a host of improvements
this fall to the free Carolina Shuttle system, making it even more convenient to navigate
campus via public transit. Please send any questions you may have about the upcoming
changes to parking@mailbox.sc.edu.
