Busy schedules can force many college students to stay up all night studying. Now, thanks to St. Jude’s Up ‘Til Dawn event, students can stay up all night while having fun and for a good cause.
Across college campuses, St. Jude sponsors student-led fundraisers to help the Children’s Hospitals across America continue their research while allowing the families at St. Jude to focus on their sick child while keeping the costs for treatment, food, travel and more at zero.
On March 25, approximately 200 Carolina students gathered at the Strom Fitness and Wellness Center to celebrate the campus’ fundraising and awareness effort. The students form fundraising teams, which are required to raise at least $100 to participate.
“I think taking six hours out of your night isn’t really too much and we have the time to give when they obviously don’t,” says junior exercise science major Erin Dreyer. “It’s supposed to represent the sleepless nights that the families and the patients have while they’re at St. Jude and so I think it’s the least that we can do.”
So far, Up ‘Til Dawn at USC has raised $19,000 — just short of their goal of $21,000. However, donations are still being accepted through April 14 and all are encouraged to donate.
Freshman, sophomores and juniors at Carolina can also apply for the 2017 Up ‘Til Dawn executive board that plans and runs the event.
For more information on how to apply for the executive board and for more on the event follow @StJudeUSCUTD on Twitter. You also can donate online.
