Each year, a group of individuals are selected to participate in one of two leadership development programs.
Pipeline for Academy Leaders (PAL)
The second cohort of 25 PAL fellows [pdf] completed their program on April 26, 2016. Participants completed 54 hours of leadership development training on a variety of critical topics. The PAL program is constructed using the following framework:
- Personal Mastery: The ability to know oneself and learn from experience
- Interpersonal Mastery: The ability to communicate, influence, and work well with others
- Team Mastery: The ability to develop and lead groups of individuals towards common goals while promoting a high performing work culture
- Systems Mastery: The ability to think systemically and lead an organization through a successful strategic change process
The fellows worked on developing the five competencies of leading change, leading people, managing for results, institutional knowledge and understanding, and building effective relationships. In addition to the valuable training, is the creation of networks among faculty from 12 colleges and senior administrators representing five large divisions who otherwise would have little and infrequent interaction.
Emerging Leaders Program (ELP)
The inaugural cohort of the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) completed their work on April 28, 2016. The Emerging Leaders Program is designed for administrative professionals who are currently serving in a supervisory or management position, and who have the potential to hold a higher-level administrative leadership position at USC in the near future.
The framework of the Emerging Leaders Program is similar to the PAL program and is grounded on the same competencies. The 24 participants [pdf] from 18 academic and administrative units completed over 60 hours of leadership training.
