Offices to check out during the summer
By Adena Rice, firstname.lastname@example.org
Many on-campus offices are open during the summer and offer the same services as during fall and spring semesters. Without having to worry as much about assignments, projects or tests, students can take advantage of the slower pace to learn something new, change their major or find a job.
At the Student Success Center, the Financial Literacy program helps students with managing their money, building and managing credit, moving off campus and financial planning for study abroad. One-on-one consultations are offered throughout the summer. To make an appointment, stop by the Student Success Center, go to the center’s website or call the office at 803-777-1000.
Major Change Advising
Major Change Advising helps students plan to change majors that are in different colleges. Half-hour appointments and 15- to 20-minute drop-in sessions in the University Advising Center are offered during the summer. Drop-in sessions are between 1 and 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Go to the center’s website or call 803-777-1222 to make an appointment or learn more about its services.
For questions about studying abroad, the Study Abroad office is still open during the summer. Students can walk in for advising from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. To make appointment, visit the office’s website or call 803-777-7557 to set up a phone appointment.
For help with searching for and getting jobs and internships, the Career Center provides services throughout the summer. The Career Center offers drop-in hours between 1 and 4 p.m. Students can talk with a consultant and get help with resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, job search and plans for graduate schools. For more information on each service provided, go to the center’s website.
Pre-Professional Advising helps students plan for either pre-health, pre-law or pre-medical career paths. During the summer, pre-professional advising offers advisements, individual appointments, career observation, application preparation, help with personal statements and mock interviews. To learn more about services provided or schedule an appointment, go to go to the office’s website.
