Representing every academic unit across campus, USC faculty members submitted 130 applications to the Excellence Initiative Committee for funding consideration.
Funding requests totaled approximately $70 million. Those proposals that are identified as the most transformative and sustainable will receive a portion of the $17 million that was set aside for the initiative.
The Excellence Initiative Committee, led by Stephen Cutler, dean of the College of Pharmacy, anticipates completing its review of the Phase 1 applications by the middle of March.
Established in Fall 2017, the Excellence Initiative was created as a strategic reinvestment in academic affairs. It was designed to support a range of important projects, including recruiting top faculty, ensuring excellence in the classroom and creating new experiential learning opportunities for students across academic disciplines.
