Faculty Senate statement on Tree of Life Synagogue attack

At the Faculty Senate meeting on Nov. 14, the Senate approved unanimously the following statement:

"The faculty of the University of South Carolina condemns the horrific anti-Semitic attack on Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh on Oct. 27, and, in these tragic times, stands in strong support behind the Jewish community, worldwide, in the U.S., in the state of South Carolina and in our university. In line with its commitment to the Carolinian Creed, as stated in the University of South Carolina Faculty Manual, and to 'being active agents for promoting the values inherent in the Carolinian Creed,' the faculty is adamant in not tolerating any targeting of Jewish persons, or persons of other religions and ethnicities, on or off campus, implicitly or explicitly, through acts of violence, intimidation or discrimination."

The University of South Carolina Faculty Senate is a governing body established by the Board of Trustees with representative faculty members selected by each college or school.
