Tree planting begins at 1 p.m. on Gibbes Green.

University of South Carolina students, faculty and staff are invited to join in the Arbor Day Celebration on Friday, Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. at Gibbes Green.

Activities take place behind the Melton Observatory, located across Greene Street from the Russell House. The celebration includes planting new trees and exhibits on the benefits and valuation of trees. Participants in the tree plantings will receive a free T-shirt.

South Carolina has been recognized every year since 2009 by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree Campus USA. The program recognizes college and university campuses yearly for effective management of campus trees and engaging the student population with the community beyond campus for service and learning opportunities.
