UofSC sets new bar in U.S. News graduate school rankings

When it comes to attracting student talent to the Palmetto State, the University of South Carolina is second to none. The new U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools publication released Tuesday (March 12) shows South Carolina now has 53 unique nationally ranked graduate programs — more than all the other colleges and universities in the state combined.
The university’s ranked graduate and professional programs include diverse areas of study in the sciences, technology, engineering, math, the arts, health sciences, law and business. These programs help train graduate students destined to become future leaders in their fields, providing the skilled workforce needed to propel the state’s knowledge economy forward.
“More than 6,200 graduate students from more than 60 countries come to South Carolina to join a community of engaged scholars focused on attaining the knowledge to make a positive difference in their chosen fields. We’re proud of our programs and the pivotal role they play in helping students achieve success," said Cheryl Addy, vice provost and dean of the Graduate School.
Highlights from the new rankings:
- No. 1 ranking for the International MBA program
- No. 4 ranking for social psychology program (specialization within sociology)
- No. 22 ranking for part-time MBA program (13th among public universities)
- No. 22 ranking for criminology program (18th among public universities)
- No. 23 ranking for public health (12th among public universities)
- No. 30 ranking for nursing master's program (17th among public universities)
- No. 30 ranking for speech-language pathology program
The top ranking for the international MBA program is the continuation of a long string of success for the Darla Moore School of Business, and Dean Peter Brews says the impact of providing great graduate education can be felt throughout South Carolina and beyond.
“Ranking as the No. 1 international MBA in the nation is a testament to our outstanding faculty and the educational excellence of our program. The Moore School is committed to delivering exceptional business programming that not only prepares graduates for success but teaches them the value of teamwork, integrity and resilience so that they can better lead and make a difference in markets around the world.”
In addition, South Carolina — the state’s only public law school — ranked highly in several law specialty categories featured in this year's guide:
- Trial advocacy (No. 34; No. 11 among public law schools)
- Clinical law training (No. 40; No. 19 among public law schools)
- Legal writing (No. 42; No. 21 among public law schools)
- Environmental law (No. 50; No. 25 among public law schools)
