      Health Hazard Data

A glance at the "Health Hazard Data" section gives us vital information about how dangerous this chemical can be if not handled properly.  It tells us about permissable Exposure and Threshold Limits (PEL & TLV), symptoms of exposure, routes of entry into the body, medical conditions that can be made worse by exposure, cancer causing properties, and emergency & first aid procedures.

      SECTION V: Health Hazard Data

      LD50 LC50 MIXTURE: LD50 (ORAL, RAT) IS 2140 MG/KG.
      ROUTE OF ENTRY INHALATION: NO
      ROUTE OF ENTRY SKIN: NO
      ROUTE OF ENTRY INGESTION: YES
HEALTH HAZ ACUTE AND CHRONIC: ACUTE & CHRONIC- SERIOUS BURNS TO ALL TISSUES CONTACTED. EXCEEDINGLY DANGEROUS TO EYE. A SINGLE OVER EXPOSURE TO MISTS MAY LEAD TO PULMONARY EDEMA. LONG EXPOSURES ARE CLAIMED TO LEAD TO RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS, EMPHYSEMA & DIGESTIVE DISTURBANCES. MAY CAUSE DENTAL ERROSION, BRONCHITIS & DEATH.
      CARCINOGENICITY NTP: NO
      CARCINOGENICITY IARC: NO
      CARCINOGENICITY OSHA: NO
      EXPLANATION CARCINOGENICITY: NOT LISTED
SIGNS SYMPTOMS OF OVEREXP: EYE, SKIN BURNS, DENTAL ERROSION, PULMONARY EDEMA, BRONCHITIC SYMPTOMS, EMPHYSEMA, DEATH
MED COND AGGRAVATED BY EXP: SKIN IRRITATION MAY BE AGGRAVATED IN PERSONS WITH EXISTING SKIN LESION. MAY AGGRAVATE PRE-EXISTING EYE, TEETH AND PULMONARY DISEASES.
EMERGENCY FIRST AID PROC: SPEED IS ESSENTIAL. START FIRST AID & GET MEDICAL CARE AT ONCE. EYES/SKIN:FLUSH WITH WATER FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES. HOLD EYELIDS OPEN. INHALED:REMOVE TO FRESH AIR. PROVIDE CPR/OXYGEN IF NEEDED. ORAL:DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. IF CONSCIOUS, DRINK MILK OR WATER. NEVER GIVE ANYTHING BY MOUTH TO AN UNCONSCIOUS PERSON.

As we can see, getting this material on the skin or in your eyes is very dangerous.  It causes severe chemical burns to human tissue, especially the eyes.  Other health problems can arise after breathing the mist (liquid droplets suspended in air).

This section also tells us what to do in case the chemical does contact our skin or eyes.  Flushing with water as quickly as possible may be the key to saving your or a co-worker's eyesight.
