Join ORec for a day of skiing or snowboarding at Beech Mountain Resort in North Carolina. We'll provide transportation and a lift pass, and you'll have the option to rent any equipment you need at the resort. Expect to leave early that morning and arrive back late at night after a day of skiing.
Previous skiing or snowboarding experience is required.

Right next to the namesake trail in Table Rock State Pak sits Pinnacle Mountain. The highest peak in the park and second-highest point in the state, this hike is well worth the challenge. At just under 8 miles long with about 2300 feet of elevation gain, this hike is difficult but suitable for anyone from beginners up for a challenge to experienced hikers. ORec provides transportation, park admission, and trip leaders to guide the day. You'll need to bring comfortable clothes to hike in, hiking shoes, and a lunch.

Interested in learning how to backpack but want the security of a familiar environment? Join ORec for a beginner's backpacking clinic on campus. Two trip leaders will take you on a hike around campus before heading to STWFC for a crash course in backpacking skills where you'll set up camp and spend the night. You'll cook backpacking meals, learn to sleep comfortably outdoors, and get tips from our experienced staff. This adventure trip is perfect for those looking to try backpacking in a low-stress environment before heading into the backcountry!

Join ORec for our first ever ladies-only hike! Connect with a group of like-minded women as you hike the iconic Raven Cliff Falls Trail in Caesar's Head State Park, which ends with an epic view of a 400-foot waterfall. You'll also check out the Caesar's Head lookout, which provides panoramic views of the Blue Ridge mountains. This hike is perfect for beginners and experienced hikers alike.

Boasting over 50 miles of mountain biking trails of varying difficulty, the Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC is the perfect place to go for new and experienced mountain bikers alike. You'll travel to the center with ORec, where you'll get a bike (rented by us) and hit the trails with two experienced mountain bikers and spend a few hours on trail learning beginner and intermediate skills.
Please wear proper athletic attire and footwear and bring plenty of water and snacks. We'll provide instruction, transportation, and mountain bikes! New mountain bikers are welcome, but you must be very comfortable riding bikes on the road/level surfaces to sign up.

Experience the world of backpacking on this exceptional route along one of the most iconic long-distance hikes in the world, the Appalachian Trail. You'll hike for four days and three nights in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, starting at Clingman's Dome, the highest point in the park and one of the most famous site on the Appalachian Trail. You'll cover between 5 and 12.5 miles a day, but the challenge will be well worth the views and satisfaction of completing an awesome backpacking trip.
Requirements (at least one of the following must be met to register)
- Attended a previous ORec backpacking trip
- Current or previous enrollment in a university backpacking PEDU course
- Fill out exemption form based on prior experience: Form Link
We will provide sleeping bags, tents, backpacks, cooking equipment, all group gear, transportation, and instruction from our experienced staff members. A mandatory pre-trip meeting will be held the week before the trip for final trip preparations and to review your packing list.

What You Need to Know
- Trips are open to all USC students, faculty and staff.
- All trips will only require beginner skill levels, unless otherwise noted.
- Basic health history form will be required for trip participants.
- No-show participants will not be eligible for a refund.
Refunds
You must cancel at least 7 days prior to the trip to get a refund. After that, no refunds will be given.
We will give you a full refund if the trip is canceled due to low registration, weather or other extenuating circumstances. No-show participants will not be eligible for a refund.
