The goal of the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Predoctoral Basic Biomedical Sciences Research Training Program is to develop a diverse pool of well-trained scientists available to address the nation’s biomedical research agenda. Specifically, this funding announcement provides support to eligible, domestic organizations to develop and implement effective, evidence-informed approaches to biomedical graduate training and mentoring that will keep pace with the rapid evolution of the biomedical research enterprise. NIGMS expects that the proposed research training programs will incorporate didactic, research, and career development elements to prepare trainees for careers that will have a significant impact on the health-related research needs of the nation.
This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) does not allow appointed Trainees to lead an independent clinical trial, but does allow them to obtain research experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor or co-mentor.
PLEASE NOTE THIS PROGRAMS SUBMISSION LIMITS: USC is permitted to submit 1 application in EACH of these 12 areas of basic biomedical sciences. The internal application MUST list and rank three possible target areas.
This program has 3 deadlines per year: January, May, and September

Limited submissions MUST be coordinated with the Office of the Vice President for Research.

1) A cover page with project title, PI, and list of key collaborators AND from this listing of basic biomedical sciences, select and rank 3 as possible target areas for your proposal (USC is permitted to submit 1 proposal for EACH of the 12 listed biomedical science areas)
2) a two-page project abstract, and
3) a 2-3 page CV/biosketch for the PI (SCiENcv preferred)
